Triancloth is a system design for recycling and classification of used clothes, including the design of hardware, software, system architecture, service processes, and business models. Traincloth focuses on solving the clothing classification issue and the economic balance of the recycle system. We use this project to take part in the User eXperience Design Award (UXDA) in 2019. Triancloth was co-directed by Mr. Zhu, a designer from Fiberhome Group, and Mr. Wu Lei, Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Background:
According to research, China produces 50 million tons of used clothes every year. The vast majority of them are classified as ordinary garbage and burned or landfilled, and only less than 10% of their clothes are properly recycled. How can we improve the recycling system and make it more effective?
Economic dilemma:
With this question in mind, we conducted a series of investigations. And finally focused the problem on the economic problems of the recycling system. According to the survey, the average recycling cost of a piece of clothing is about 12 yuan, but on Taobao, the price of a brand-new shirt is only 9.9 yuan.
In further research, we found that the two links of transportation and classification have the highest cost.
We believe that excessive costs are the key to the failure of the recovery system to function well. Regarding the transportation issue, we are thinking about how to reduce the duplication of transportation due to distribution. Regarding the classification problem, we are thinking about how to improve the efficiency of classification, and whether the classification can be completed by the donor?
User experience:
In the next stage. We also considered the user experience and problems of the current recycling system through interviews and field observations. We defined our audience and did our persona.
Concept:
Finally, after brainstorming and screening. We adopt the concept of smart donation suitcase. The smart donation box pre-sorts and labels the old clothes collected in the area, and the clothes can be sorted by the machine after being transported to the factory. In addition, the labeled clothing is also convenient for tracking and logistics distribution.
Touchpoints design:
In addition, corporate support is also considered by us. On the basis of the smart donation box, we also designed a small program as an information data terminal to support the operation of the smart donation box. A series of event planning expanded the influence of the system and provided channels for corporate cooperation.
Design details:
Mini Program
WeChat Mini Programs are a new way of connecting users and services. They are easy to access and share on WeChat, delivering an excellent user experience. Users can access Mini Programs in WeChat without installing another application.
Smart Donation Box
Inside the donation box, there are clothes donation guides, ironing machines, brushes, T-shirt folding board, hangers, and bags for donors to use, providing a high-quality clothes donation experience. Follow the guide to enter the laundry information through the display and attach the RFID label to the laundry. After the clothes are sent to the sorting station, they are quickly sorted by the machine, which greatly reduces the sorting cost.
