美学、哲学领域对体验的讨论久已有之，而设计学中对体验的引入，则是七八十年代随HCI而出现的“用户体验”概念，被拿来衡量无技术背景的普通用户使用科技产品时的满意度。而用户体验今日的火爆更多是出于日渐丰裕的社会、商业竞争及技术平台化的语境下，将其拿来作为产品差异化的手段，恰如Hassenzahl指出的用户体验背后表现出的是与工业化时代实用品质（pragmatic quality）相区别的享乐品质（hedonic quality）。因此用户体验是一种面向用户的系统化的考量。而谈及设计，传统的设计对象是某种特定形式的人工物，而体验作为个体的思维活动，不在人工物之列，对用户体验的设计，则充其量是“influence what someone experiences (such as a sense of value, utility, usability, etc.) through design”。
The experience of aesthetics and philosophy has long been discussed. However, the introduction of experience in design is the concept of "user experience" that emerged with HCI in the 1970s to 1980s. This concept is used to measure the satisfaction of user with no relevant study when using technology products. The popularity of user experience today is more regareded as a product differentiation method in the context of increasingly affluent society, commercial competition and the platformization of technology. As Hassenzahl pointed out, behind the user experience is a hedonic quality that is different from the pragmatic quality of the industrial age. Therefore user experience is a systematic consideration for users. When it comes to design, the traditional design object is a certain form of artificial object, but experience as an individual's thinking activity is not among the artificial objects. The design of our user experience is at best "influence what someone experiences througn design"
